GAINESVILLE — The water main break that slowed traffic along Browns Bridge Road (Hwy. 369) near Lake Lanier and the Forsyth County line for hours during the Friday evening commute has been fixed and the corridor has reopened.
According to the state Department of Transportation, additional repairs will be made next week during off-peak hours at the site, which is by Waldrip Road a mile from the lake.
All lanes of the road had reopened by 6:55 p.m. according to the DOT. The break, which occurred about 3:30 p.m. caused damage to the road and its support structure.
It was not immediately clear what caused the line to break. Motorists were advised to take alternate routes, but still traffic backed up for miles.
