A countywide, state-mandated ban on outdoor burning takes effect Sunday and lasts until Sept. 30.

All outdoor burning including leaves, trash, yard debris and storm damage is prohibited.

The ban is imposed by the Georgia Environmental Protection Division in an effort to comply with federal clean air regulations.

Exceptions to the ban include recreational or cooking fires, campfires in approved areas and open flame equipment.

For more information about outdoor burning regulations, go online at or call the Forsyth County Fire Department Fire Marshal’s Office at (678) 455-8072.
