Nearly 20 law firms from Forsyth and Hall counties participated in the 2013 Georgia Legal Food Frenzy to support the Gainesville-based Georgia Mountain Food Bank.

The statewide food drive asks attorneys in Georgia to challenge each other outside the courtroom for the benefit of seven regional food banks.

A total of 249 law firms and legal organizations, representing 14,000 employees in 47 cities competed in the 2013 drive, which collected monetary and food donations.

Georgia Mountains Food Bank saw an increase of nearly 50 percent in the number of firms participating from 2012 and nearly 40 percent increase in the amount of donations raised.

Kay Blackstock, executive director, said in a statement that the organization was “beyond grateful for the support of the legal community.”

“The involvement of law firms in the north Georgia area reaffirms the giving nature of our community and the importance of ending hunger in Georgia.”

Georgia Mountain Food Bank collects surplus food and grocery products for distribution to nonprofit partner agencies throughout Forsyth, Hall, Dawson, Lumpkin and Union counties.
