Christmas in the Village is set for 5 to 7 p.m. Dec. 14 in Vickery Village. For more information about the Wonder Project, e-mail email@example.com.
The Vickery community in west Forsyth is opening its doors for a tree-lighting event Dec. 14.
Christmas in the Village will feature musical entertainment, a gingerbread workshop, hot cocoa, Christmas market and visits with Santa Claus.
Vickery Creek Elementary School’s fifth-grade choir will kick off the event at 5 p.m., with activities culminating at 7 p.m. for the tree lighting.
The event was organized by the Wonder Project and founders Melissa Burns and Tracey Varrone.
The project welcomes children ages 4 to 11 to meet in groups to create crafts, sing, dance and participate in educational activities.
As a local teacher, Varrone said she sees “a real need for the children to be able to play and have a non-results-oriented program ... and we see that it’s really important that they feel connected to the community and the world at large and through play, creativity and service. We feel committed to exploring and discovering that.”
