Cumming-Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce to host inaugural manufacturing awards

The Cumming-Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce is giving out a new series of awards to highlight manufacturing in the county.

On Nov. 8, the chamber will host its inaugural Manufacturers of Distinction and Leadership Awards at the Forsyth Conference Center at Lanier Technical College starting at 11:15 a.m. Robert Long, vice president of economic development, said the chamber previously held annual manufacturing roundtable luncheons but wanted to recognize specific businesses.

“I think it carries more weight when you get company specific and the impact and the things that [businesses are] doing in our community,” Long said.

The following companies are being considered for the three awards:

• Small Manufacturer of the Year: Metcam Inc. and Motovario Inc.

• Medium Manufacturer of the Year: Hansgrohe Inc. and Solvay Specialty Polymers.

• Large Manufacturer of the Year: Scientific Games Corporation and Siemens Industry.

Long said the award winners will be based on economic impact, corporate responsibility and workforce excellence, which are the same qualifications for similar awards given by the state.

“We mimic the state’s application so we can pick our award winners and then submit them to the state for the state manufacturer of the year awards,” he said. “So there’s an opportunity not only to recognize some of our excellent companies locally, but there’s the opportunity that they might become a finalist or win at the state level as well.”

An art contest winner from a local elementary, middle and high school will also be chosen at the event.

Long said Gwinnett, Cherokee and Hall counties have similar awards.

Tickets to the event are $20 each and can be purchased online at cummingforsythchamber.org or by calling (770) 887-6461. Tickets for tables of 10 can also be purchased.
