The Sawnee Electric Membership Foundation recently awarded 15 area high school seniors with $3,500 scholarships.The following scholarship recipients, listed by school, were honored during a reception Tuesday at Sawnee EMC:• Alpharetta: Maggie Brogan• Chattahoochee: Jessica Huynh and Emily Jennings• Chestatee: Shea Neugent• Creekview: Taylor Boles• Dawson County: Haley Hamil• Lambert: Lyddy O’Brien and Stephanie Pool• Marist: Luke Dinges• Milton: Jonathan Gill• North Forsyth: Savannah Scheyer• West Forsyth: Kimberly Chambers, Martina Vis, Daniel Yates and Teresa ZittrauerBlake House, vice president of member services at Sawnee EMC, said in a statement that it’s a “privilege for the foundation to be able to assist these students in furthering their education.”“The Foundation Youth Scholarship program is a shining example of what the foundation and Sawnee EMC are all about — a commitment to giving back in the communities we serve,” House said.The funding for the scholarship program is derived from unclaimed funds from Sawnee EMC, which is separate and apart from the funds the foundation distributes to charities.In the past seven years, the foundation has awarded $217,000 in scholarships to 66 high schools seniors within Sawnee EMC’s seven-county service area.Jerry Burum, chairman of the foundation’s board, said in a statement that “supporting those in need in our communities, and helping these outstanding students continue their education is a key part of meeting the foundation’s core mission.”
