This New Year’s Day took on special meaning for one Forsyth County family.

Blanca Aparicio-Granados and Mariano Figueroa of Cumming became the parents of the first baby born in 2012 at Northside Hospital-Forsyth.

Their son, Jayro Figueroa, was born at 6:03 a.m. Sunday. He weighed in at 9 pounds, 2 ounces and was 21 inches long.

This is the third child for the couple.

In celebration of the event, the hospital presented the family with a large cake. The Northside-Forsyth Auxiliary donated a gift basket and balloons.

In addition, the hospital’s newborn photography service gave the family a gift certificate for a photo package.

Northside Hospital-Atlanta’s first baby of 2012 was born at exactly 12 a.m. Sunday.

Jennifer and Ryan Leo of Suwanee welcomed daughter Scarlett Rayne Leo, who weighed in at 7 pounds, 15 ounces, and was also 21 inches long.

According to reports from the hospital, the family brought noise makers and tiaras to celebrate their third daughter’s birth.

In a statement, Ryan Leo described the event as “better than fireworks.”

“Every birth is special in some way, but this one is unforgettable,” he said.
