FORSYTH COUNTY -- The Forsyth County Tax Assessors Office will be opening earlier this week for homestead exemption applications, but the deadline is quickly approaching.

From Monday until Wednesday, the Tax Assessor’s Office will open at 8 a.m., 30 minutes earlier than usual, to accommodate those trying to apply for the exemption before Wednesday’s deadline. The office’s normal closing time of 5 p.m. will not be affected by the change.

Those whose applications are accepted are eligible for lower tax by filing the exemption. Residents are able to apply for the exemptions year round, but the deadline is April 1.

Those wishing to apply must have purchased a house in 2015, been living there by Jan. 1, and consider the house their primary legal residence. Homeowners can only apply for the homestead exemption for one house.

The Tax Assessors Office is located at the Forsyth County Administration Building in downtown Cumming.
