Most folks know The Avenue Forsyth has shopping and dining options, but how about live music?

The outdoor mall will hold a summer concert series beginning Wednesday near Coldwater Creek.

Called Music in the Park, the series will run every other Wednesday through Aug. 10 and will feature three Atlanta area bands – Nick Longo, Last Three Standing and the Dean Balkwill Band.

Nick Longo, who will perform June 15 and July 13, is a professional saxophone player who has worked with musicians such as Chaka Khan, Don Henley, Ray Charles, Charlie Daniels and Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Performing June 29 and Aug. 10, Last Three Standing is the trio version of Last Five Standing, an Atlanta rock band.

Originally from Canada, Dean Balkwill’s credits include Broadway’s "Rent" and "The Lion King."

He lives in Atlanta where he works recording vocals for commercials, performing with his band and writing original musical works for the stage.

Balkwill takes to the Avenue’s outdoor stage on July 27.

Megan Jurkovic, senior marketing manager for The Avenue Forsyth, said this is the third year for the concert series.

"Based on the strong attendance last year and the positive feedback we received from attendees, we knew we wanted to bring it back this year," she said.

Jurkovic said live music always tops the list of requests from Avenue visitors when asked what events they would like to see at the facility.

"We thought the Music in the Park series would be a great way to bring live music to Forsyth County in a relaxing, outdoor environment and our shoppers seem to agree," she said.

Patrons are invited to bring a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy the music.

"Guests can also answer fun trivia questions throughout the evening for the chance to win all sorts of giveaways [from our retailers]," Jurkovic said.

In addition, guests who present same-day receipts totaling at least $75 from any Avenue retailer or restaurant will receive a free cooler tote while supplies last.

Concert-goers can also register to win a gift basket valued at $250.

Jurkovic hopes for large crowds at every performance.

"Music in the Park is perfect for dates, family nights or a night out with friends," she said. "Our musicians are some of the best in Atlanta. They are fun and engaging with the crowd.

"It’s live entertainment at its best."
