A local restaurant will soon be raising money for the local chapter of the American Red Cross.

Norman’s Landing Restaurant will hold its charity ping pong tournament at 7 p.m. Oct. 18-19.

Singles play will be Oct. 18, followed up with doubles play the following day.

The tournaments are held at least twice a year, with each raising money for a different charitable cause.

Restaurant owner Bill Norman said he’s hoping for a big crowd.

“I just called 250 people about it,” he said. “We usually have about 30 to 40 people on the first night, and 14 to 20 people for doubles.”

Norman said he’d like to raise at least $1,000 for the Red Cross.

“We always have a good tournament in October,” he said.

Gift certificates to the restaurant will be awarded to the top two singles and doubles participates, he said, and T-shirts will be given to all players.

Norman said those interested can come by the restaurant any time prior to the event to register.

“Or they can come at 6:30, 6:45 the night of and sign up,” he added.

Spectators are always welcome too, he said.

“Everyone’s welcome to come by and watch some baseball and a little ping pong.”
