The Designing Dreams annual reception will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Sept. 27 at RBM-North Mercedes-Benz, 345 McFarland Parkway. The event is free and open to the public, but those interested in attending are asked to R.S.V.P. to Allison Havill Todd Interiors by 5 p.m. Monday at (770) 887-7612 or

An interior design company will hold a fundraiser next week to officially kick off a room makeover project.

Designing Dreams, the nonprofit foundation of Allison Havill Todd Interiors, in 2009 began providing room makeovers to individuals or charitable organizations going through “physical, emotional or financial crisis.”

This year marks the fourth room makeover, which is valued at about $20,000.

Michele Williams of Ball Ground has been selected as this year’s recipient. Williams has been active in pet rescue for many years.

In 2010, her husband was in automobile accident that left him incapacitated while Williams gave up her job to care for him.

In March 2012, he passed away, leaving her with many medical and other bills.

On Sept. 27, Designing Dreams will officially announce Williams as this year’s recipient during its annual reception.

Todd said the event, which is set for 7 to 9 p.m. at RBM-North Mercedes-Benz on McFarland Parkway, is “by far the largest fundraiser” for the project.

The room makeover, which will include Williams’ living space as well as an office area, is scheduled to be completed by Thanksgiving.

Todd said she’s hoping for a large turnout at the reception event, which is free and will offer hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar.

“I would expect 75 people, hopefully 100,” she said.

Todd said volunteers have been “working on garnering silent auction items” and have collected about 30 for the event. They include items for “both guys and girls,” Todd said.

“The Mercedes-Benz dealership is donating a little child’s car and it’s so cool,” she said. “We’ve got a man’s Swiss Army watch, both of those items are valued at over $450.

“Then we have everything from gift baskets for dogs to artwork to jewelry.”

Raffle tickets will be available for purchase at the event, although Todd said anyone interested can buy them from her office through Oct. 1, when the drawing will be held.

“Our grand prize, which is what we’re selling raffle tickets for, is the opportunity to win a trip for two, a four-night stay at a beach resort in Costa Rica,” she said. “Airfare is not included, but it’s valued at around $1,800.”

Raffle tickets are $25 each, three for $60 or five for $100.

Todd said she was thankful to the community for its support of Designing Dreams.

“I’m thrilled and so grateful for the folks at RBM for so graciously opening their showroom for us,” she said. “And Viking is providing all the food and they do fabulous hors d’oeuvres.

“We’re looking for a great turnout and I think it’ll be a fun evening for all.”
