Taste of Forsyth returning Saturday to Cumming Fairgrounds

CUMMING -- On Saturday, the Cumming Fairgrounds will feature egg hunts, trucks and live music, but most importantly food.

The fifth annual Taste of Forsyth will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. Dave Horton, director of the fairgrounds, said that the event was a chance for local eateries and businesses to connect with the community.

“Taste of Forsyth is showcasing restaurants in our community that want to get some visibility and let people taste their specialties, and hopefully draw business to them after the event.” Horton said. “It’s also a chance for businesses that can sponsor and have some presence visibility there also.”

Horton said around 20 restaurants will sell samples of their food, but Horton said visitors will be able to try several different foods.

“It’s $1 to $4, is the sample pricing,” he said. “Each restaurant sets their own pricing, but it’s never more than $4 for samples, but it’s nice because you can go to four or five different restaurants and try different things. It’s not like you get a full meal deal at one spot, so you can try several.”

Families with children are also welcomed to some to the event, and the popular “Touch a Truck” event will be held again this year.

“The ‘Touch a Truck,’ we have a lot of groups in the community that gets involved with that,” Horton said. “The national Guard usually has a presence with that, there’s the fire department, sheriff’s department, city police department and usually another one or two miscellaneous trucks that’ll be thrown in there.”

Also for youngsters, the event will feature a puppeteer, inflatables and three Easter egg hunts with quite a few eggs to be found.

“We have three different groupings,” Horton said. “Ages 3 and under have a hunt at 11:30 a.m., ages 4 to 7 at 12:30 p.m. and ages 8 to 10 at 1:30 p.m., and we put out approximately 25,000 eggs total for those three hunts.”

Admission to the event is free, and the event will be held rain or shine.
