The parks and recreation departments of Cumming and Forsyth County are observing National Park and Recreation Month in July.

“It’s just a special time to show what we do, what our benefits are — like health and fitness — and just bringing the community together,” said Jerry Kinsey, director of the county’s department.

Residents may be familiar with many of the offerings, Kinsey said, including disc golf, tennis courts, playgrounds and athletic fields.

But there’s also health and fitness classes, a variety of camps and water activities such as canoeing and kayaking.

The city also offers a wealth of resources including horseback riding, dance, art and gymnastics.

“It’s our national [month] ... for people to learn the benefits and promote recreation in their communities,” he said.

“The city of Cumming and Forsyth County offer a great amount of recreation to our community and the community support is very good.”
