In order to accommodate Sharon Forks Library’s current expansion and renovation construction project, the south Forsyth facility will close an hour early from Monday through Thursday beginning Monday, Sept. 11.

The library will also close temporarily from Oct. 2 through Oct. 29 to allow movers to transport furniture, shelving and computers from the existing building to the new expansion section.

New hours, closing schedule

Monday-Thursday, beginning Sept. 11

  • 10 a.m.-7:30 p.m.

Friday-Saturday

  • 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m.

Sunday

  • 1:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m.

Closed

  • Monday, Oct. 2 through Sunday, Oct. 29

Once the movers have completed their work, library staff will move more than 100,000 books and materials to the new area, said Mendy Gunter, Sharon Forks branch manager.

“We want to keep the library open and available to patrons as much as we possibly can while construction is in progress, but we need to move everything into the new building while the older section is under renovation,” she said. “The library will reopen and resume normal operating hours at 10 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 30, and we’ll look forward to welcoming our patrons back to the library.”

In addition to the closings, beginning Monday, Sharon Forks will stop accepting requests for holds on materials, and Gunter asked that patrons pick up any existing holds before the branch closes at 7:30 p.m.

Holds may be picked up at other branches if coordinated with a librarian and materials that are currently checked out can be returned to any of the library’s other branches.

Books and other materials checked out at Sharon Forks near the end of September will be due after the branch reopens in late October.

“We truly appreciate their patience throughout this project,” Gunter said, “and we can’t wait to celebrate a grand opening of the whole branch when renovations are complete in the spring.”
