The performers for the Cumming Country Fair and Festival have been announced, and they’re bringing a lot of chart-topping songs with them.
Fairgrounds Administrator Dave Horton said country music acts Kellie Pickler, Gene Watson and Thompson Square will each headline a night of the annual fair. The fair will run October 5-15 at the Cumming Fairgrounds at 235 Castleberry Road, and all shows will start at 8 p.m.
“Our concerts are always free with admission,” Horton said. “It’s general seating, so quite a few seats in the bleachers, a little over 3,000 seats in the bleachers. On the floor there’s always a good number of chairs plus standing room. Many times, after the first son they’re standing anyway, so we can put a lot of folks in there.”
Pickler will kick-off the fair’s concert series on Friday, October 6. The former American Idol contestant and Dancing with the Stars winner is also staring in a new daytime talk show star on CMT with Ben Aaron called, “Pickler and Ben.”
Horton said Pickler last performed at the fair in 2013.
On Tuesday, October 10, Gene Watson, known for his hits “Love in the Afternoon” and “Farewell Party,” will take the stage. This is his first time playing the fair but was a frequent performer at north Forsyth’s Lanierland before it closed in 2006.
“He’s an old country guy but has hits for way back. He can play a lot of songs and never get off ones and twos,” Horton said. “Gene used to play Lanierland quite a bit, so he probably hasn’t been here in a while. So, it’ll be fun for a lot of the community to see Gene again.”
Thompson Square, a duo made up of husband and wife Keifer and Shawna Thompson, will perform the last of the shows on Thursday Oct. 12. They are known for the number-one hits “Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not” and “If I Didn’t Have You.”
