CUMMING — A two-car head-on collision Sunday night near a Cumming retail center sent three people, including two young children, to the hospital.

According to Doug Rainwater, a spokesman for the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred about 6:30 p.m. on North Old Atlanta Road near the rear entrance to Lakeland Plaza.

A 2013 Nissan Leaf was traveling west on North Old Atlanta when it was struck by a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox.

The Chevrolet had reportedly pulled out from the shopping center and mistakenly entered the westbound lane in the wrong direction.

The 33-year-old female driver of the Nissan, along with two backseat passengers, ages 8 and 5, were taken to Atlanta area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries, according to Rainwater.

A 37-year-old male front-seat passenger was not injured.

Genders of the children or whether they were related to either adult could not immediately be determined. Both children were properly restrained, Rainwater said.

He said both vehicles were traveling at low speeds, which may have lessened the severity of the injuries.

The driver of the truck, a 68-year-old woman who was traveling alone, did not require medical treatment on scene, Rainwater said.
As of Tuesday, no charges had been filed. Rainwater did say, however, that nothing suspicious was suspected.
