A Forsyth County man has been arrested and charged with murder for allegedly stabbing a 20-year-old to death on Sunday morning.
Jesus Olvera Gonzalez, 40, was taken into custody by the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office at about 5:11 a.m. on Sunday, after first responders were called to the scene of a fatal stabbing at a residence in the 5600 block of Archer Avenue in northeastern Forsyth.
According to sheriff’s office spokesman Cpl. Doug Rainwater, authorities found one deceased adult male at the residence with stab wounds and quickly took Gonzalez into custody after witnesses at the scene identified him as the alleged attacker.
Rainwater said that the victim has been identified as Jesus Gilberto Arizaga, a resident of Habersham County.
Investigators are still trying to determine the relationship between Gonzalez and his alleged victim, as well as what events precipitated the stabbing.
Gonzalez has been charged with murder and is being held in the Forsyth County Jail under no bond.
Rainwater said that additional charges could be filed as the sheriff’s office’s Major Crimes Unit continues its investigation.
In the wake of Arizaga’s death, friends and family have started a GoFundMe campaign to help raise funds to transport his body back to Mexico where his family resides. As of Tuesday afternoon, the campaign had raised $3,550.
Friends and family said that Arizaga was a friendly, humble person who loved animals and had a bright future ahead of him.
"He was really nice, he got along with everyone,” Marisol Paramo, Arizaga’s cousin, told the Forsyth County News on Monday. “He never had any problems with anybody."
