A 77-year-old suspect has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of a man at a home in northwestern Forsyth.

The suspect, Larry Martin, has been charged with one count of murder.

According to a Forsyth County Sheriff’s report, Martin lived at the Aldridge Court home of 41-year-old Ronald E. Priester, whose body was found by his wife at about 8 p.m. Thursday after she returned home from an out-of-town business trip.

Sheriff Ted Paxton said Martin is the stepfather of Priester’s wife and lived in the basement of the home. Martin was there when deputies responded to the woman’s 911 call.

“We have recovered what appears to be the weapon used to kill Mr. Priester,” Paxton said.

He noted that authorities have confirmed that Priester and Martin were the only people in the home at the time of the shooting and that deputies have not confirmed a motive.

Priester’s wife left Monday morning with two co-workers on a business trip to Orlando. Paxton said the couple had had contact with each other every day except Thursday.

“It’s a tragic story, it truly is,” Paxton said. “Mrs. Priester’s lost her husband and her stepfather all at one time and it’s such a shame.”

Investigators and the sheriff’s crime scene unit worked throughout the night and into Friday collecting evidence about the homicide.

Authorities say the investigation is ongoing.
