The body of a Johns Creek woman, missing since last week, has been recovered by local authorities.

According to Deputy Chief Aletha Barrett of the Cumming Police Department, the body of 64-year-old Carol Smith was found on Sunday afternoon, inside her 2015 Honda Odyssey, which was parked in the parking deck of Northside Hospital Forsyth.

Smith was reported missing on Nov. 5, 2018, after she left her residence early in the afternoon to run errands, leaving her cell phone in her home office and did not return, according to a release from the Johns Creek Police Department.

Barrett confirmed that Smith was found in the vehicle by her family, but would not comment on the circumstances of how the woman was found, beyond that the death is actively being investigated.

“We are conducting an investigation in conjunction with the Forsyth County Coroner’s Office and Johns Creek Police Department,” Barrett said. “An autopsy is being conducted by the Georgia Bureau of Investigations; pending those results, we will have more answers.”
