Authorities are investigating the apparent theft of some 1,000 boxes of Girl Scout cookies from a warehouse in south Forsyth.
According to a Forsyth County Sheriff’s report, a volunteer for the Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta reported Thursday that about 87 cases of the delectable treats were missing from the building on Samples Industrial Boulevard. The loss was estimated at more than $3,650.
The woman told deputies the cases, which each hold 12 boxes, are stored at the warehouse in the event that troops in the area need additional supplies.
She made the discovery after a trucking company arrived to pick some cookies.
According to the report, the door to the building was locked with a deadbolt when the volunteer got there that morning. There were no signs it had been forced open.
Sheriff’s Lt. Col. Gene Moss said it appears the cookies were taken by someone who had access to the warehouse.
Investigators are also checking to make sure a mistake in inventory wasn’t made.
