NORTHEAST FORSYTH (Updated at 4:35 p.m. Thursday) — Authorities have released the names of the women injured Tuesday in a two-vehicle head-on collision along Browns Bridge Road in northeastern Forsyth County.

As of Thursday afternoon, 32-year-old Melissa Renee Burton and 68-year-old Martha Ann Harris, both of Gainesville, remained hospitalized, according to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash occurred about 1 p.m. Tuesday near where the road meets Waldrip Circle and McBride Lane, not far from Lake Lanier.

Authorities have not said what caused the wreck, which involved a 1998 Jeep Wrangler driven by Burton and a 2000 Cadillac DeVille that Harris was driving.

According to the Forsyth County Fire Department, one of the women was taken in serious condition to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.

The other had to be cut from her vehicle, after which she was flown to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta. Her condition remains critical but has stabilized some, according to authorities.

No charges have been filed in connection with the wreck, which remains under investigation.
