Hall jail inmate charged with escape 1 week before scheduled release

A Hall County Jail inmate was charged with escape one week before he was scheduled to be released.

Denzel Guy McGlotha, 24, of Gainesville, was working on the grounds Tuesday, Aug. 7, of the Barber Road jail with an outside detail.

“A civilian jail staff member discovered McGlotha walking on Calvary Church Road at approximately 1:30 p.m. Jail deputies responded and found him about a half mile away from the jail,” Hall County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Derreck Booth wrote in an email.

Booth said McGlotha was found less than 10 minutes after he walked away from the work detail.

McGlotha surrendered to authorities and was charged with misdemeanor escape.

Booth said McGlotha was in the jail for a misdemeanor probation violation and was set for release on Aug. 14. Booth did not, however, have any information on why McGlotha would walk away.

The sheriff’s office is investigating the incident.
