Local authorities have arrested a former Georgia police officer now residing in Forsyth County on charges of distribution and possession of child pornography.

According to Cpl. Doug Rainwater of the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, Arthur Durand Handley Jr., 42, was arrested at 9 a.m. Monday at his residence in north Forsyth after more than two weeks of investigation by the sheriff’s office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

Rainwater said that the task force began investigating Handley on April 6, and the investigation led to a search of Handley’s residence and computers. On those computers, Rainwater said investigators found five child pornography images or videos that had been allegedly downloaded or saved.

Handley has been charged with five counts of sexual exploitation of children for the distribution of child pornography, and one count of sexual exploitation of children for the possession of child pornography.

Handley has been booked into the Forsyth County Jail and currently has no bond.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Handley worked as a law enforcement officer for 16 years in Albany, Smyrna and Alpharetta. More recently, he worked as a business development advisor for CopBLUE.com, an online publication for police officers.
