GAINESVILLE -- A man was shot to death Tuesday night on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Gainesville, police said.

Dennis Ronald Gayton, 47, was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center but later died.

Police responded to the incident around 9:30 p.m. near Athens Street, Gainesville Police Sgt. Kevin Holbrook said.

Officers and police dogs searched the area around the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Carlton Street for suspects but did not locate any, Holbrook said.

“(Gayton) was found in a vehicle behind the barber shop there,” he said.

Police did not release any information on potential suspects.
