A 27-year-old Forsyth County man is being sought for failure to register as a sex offender and violating his probation.
According to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, Curtis Joe Motes is required to register annually as a convicted sex offender and failed to do so in March.
The last known address for Motes, who was convicted of child molestation in 2006 in Hall County, was 5774 Adrian Lane in Forsyth County.
According to Georgia Law, any person convicted of a criminal sex offense in any state or territory must register once a year with local law enforcement, providing accurate information about where they work and live. They must also notify authorities if they move.
Forsyth has 113 sex offenders who are required to register, according to the sheriff’s office. Eighteen of those are currently in jail.
According to the sheriff’s office, the newly formed Pro-Active Community Enforcement (P.A.C.E.) Unit and the Sheriff’s Office Reserve Unit has begun conducting regular visits to the address provided by sex offenders.
“Our sex offender unit has done a great job making sure county sex offenders register,” said Sheriff Duane Piper. “We are adding checks to verify that self-reported information from offenders is correct.”
