New Jersey authorities: Forsyth County woman accused of stabbing 86-year-old 15 times

A Forsyth County woman has been charged with attempted murder by New Jersey authorities for allegedly stabbing an 86-year-old woman 15 times on Monday morning.

According to a release by the Cedar Grove Police Department in Essex County, New Jersey, at about 4 a.m. on Monday, police were called to a residence in Cedar Grove, N.J., to investigate reports that a 86-year-old woman had been found by her husband lying in bed, stabbed numerous times and bleeding profusely.

The release states that officers quickly determined that Tanya Spears, 60, of Cumming, a houseguest at the residence, was a prime suspect in the stabbing.

Spears was located in a first floor bedroom of the residence and was taken into custody charged with criminal attempt to commit murder, aggravated assault, unlawful use of a weapon and possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, according to the release.

The victim was transported to an area trauma center where she remains in critical condition, the release states.

Spears was transported to the Essex County Jail where she is being held under no bond.

An investigation into this incident is being conducted by the Cedar Grove Detective Bureau, according to the release, but so far no motive for the attack has been discovered.
