Police arrest, charge Alpharetta man in attempted kidnapping
Arrest in abduction attempt

FORSYTH COUNTY - A suspect is being held at the Forsyth County Jail and has been charged with felony kidnapping following an alleged child abduction attempt over the weekend at a local shopping center, according to an official with the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office

Michael Fazio, 26, of Alpharetta, was identified by someone who saw a Facebook video shared by the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office Saturday evening involving the alleged attempt, which took place at The Collection at Forsyth at 410 Peachtree Parkway.

The child’s father intervened in the incident — which occurred around 3 p.m. Saturday — and the three-year-old child is safe and unharmed.

“From that point we did a whole bunch of checking and our detectives worked through the night to find him,” said Cpl. Doug Rainwater, a spokesman for the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.

Rainwater said the suspect stated he thought the boy was someone he knew, “but we don’t even halfway believe that. We believe that it was a true stranger in stranger kidnapping.”

He said that in the video the suspect picked the boy up with a bear hug grip.

“That was really what made us think that this was a true stranger on stranger kidnapping, rather than a family thing,” Rainwater said.

Following the incident, deputies went to work looking for the person, described as being 30 years old with a medium build and possibly dark hair.
