Woman charged with DUI for crash in Cumming after minivan rolls over leg

Two people suffered minor injuries late Monday morning after a woman who was reportedly driving under the influence rear-ended another motorist and her minivan rolled over her right leg.

In addition to DUI, Julie Jordan, 40, of Buford, was charged with following too closely and was taken to Northside Hospital-Forsyth by a Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office deputy after refusing ambulance transport to the hospital, according to an incident report.

She was released with a copy of the charges at the hospital because of her injuries and has not yet been booked at the Forsyth County Jail, said Deputy Doug Rainwater, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office.

Jordan was driving a red minivan westbound on Buford Highway (Hwy. 20) at the Sanders Road intersection when she rear-ended a grey BMW that was occupied by an adult male, according to several deputies on scene.

Initial reports that there was a minor in the car were not confirmed by deputies or the incident report.

“[Jordan] failed to stop and struck [the BMW] in the rear bumper area. [The male] exited his vehicle to observe the damage and was then pinned between the vehicles when [the minivan] rolled forward in neutral,” the report said.

He was transported to Northside Hospital-Forsyth with non-life threatening injuries and is expected to be OK, officials said.

“[Jordan] attempted to back [the van] up and then fell beneath the front tire of her own vehicle and [her leg was] partially run over.”

Eight people stopped to pull Jordan out from under the car, six of whom lifted the van and two who pulled her to safety, said Deputy Jonathan Amos, who worked the scene.

It was not immediately known whether the man remains in the hospital or if he has been released.
