Cumming First UMC to hold holiday Bazaar
Christmas gifts

‘Tis the season for Christmas shopping.

With seven weeks until the holiday, organizations throughout the county are helping residents get an early start to their holiday shopping, and Cumming First United Methodist Church is no different.

On Saturday, the church will hold its annual Christmas Bazaar, an event that raises money for non-budgeted church items, food pantry donations, Eagle Scout projects and more, according to Carrie Sienkiewicz, a spokeswoman for the church.

The bazaar, she said, began a number of years ago by church members Mary Inghram and Shirley Schnake, who created a group aptly named the Bazaar ladies.

Sally Merck, who has been a member of the group since 1993, said she enjoys the yearly event.

“My favorite part of this ministry is the time I spend at workshops with all these wonderful, talented ladies who have become my very special friends,” she said. “We share each other’s joys and sorrows and each week we solve all the problems of our world.”

Merck said she hand-stiches mice characters and creates other art for the Christmas event, including stained glass angels, Methodist crosses and ornaments.

In addition to selling holiday gifts, the bazaar will include a children’s shop, a bake sale and a children’s breakfast with Santa.

The event will be held at the church’s Family Life Center, located at 770 Canton Highway in Cumming, on Nov. 11 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
