A Hall County Sheriff’s Office car carrying a suspect to jail crashed into a van late Wednesday night when the van was turning left onto Interstate 985.

Seven people were taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, including two deputies, the suspect, the van’s driver and her three children. All were treated and released from the hospital, the Sheriff’s Office reported.

The driver of the Honda Pilot faces charges of not yielding the right of way to the patrol car, according to the Georgia State Patrol, which is investigating the incident.

The crash happened at about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday when Dunia F. Hernandez-Guevara, 34, of Duluth, attempted to turn left onto the I-985 southbound entrance ramp from Queen City Parkway/Ga. 60, state patrol Cpl. J.S. Munger said.

The Sheriff’s Office car was driving south on Queen City when the van entered its path. The front driver’s side of the Sheriff’s Office car hit the front passenger side of the van, Munger said.

Hernandez-Guevara also faces charges of driving while unlicensed, without insurance and without properly restraining her children in the van, Sheriff’s Office Deputy Stephen Wilbanks said. An 8-year-old and 14-year-old were not buckled up, Munger said.  

She has been placed on an immigration hold by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Wilbanks added.
