Both lanes of Hwy. 20 were closed for a short time Tuesday afternoon after a school bus broke down.

The incident occurred about 3:30 p.m. on the highway near Friendship Circle northwest of Cumming.

“A Sawnee Elementary school bus experienced mechanical problems this afternoon a half mile from the campus,” said Jennifer Caracciolo, Forsyth County school system spokeswoman.

“Transportation dispatched a new bus and supervisor, both of which arrived within 10 minutes. Students were safely moved to the new bus, which proceeded with normal delivery.”

Karleen Chalker with the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office said deputies closed both lanes of Hwy. 20 to assist with the transfer process.
