The Lanier Technical College Foundation has announced it raised more than $22,000 through its recent pheasant shoot.

The annual event was held Oct. 13 at Jim Walter’s Farm in Lula. All proceeds go to benefit the foundation’s general scholarship fund.

According to a news release from Lanier Tech, the event sold out all 40 of its allotted shooter spots and had more than 30 community sponsors/partners, making it one of the college’s most successful fundraisers.

President Russell Vandiver said in a statement that organizers were “extremely proud of the community support shown for this event in our second year.”

“With the changes in what financial aid programs will pay for and the cost of attending college rising, the role of the foundation and private, community support will continue to play a vital part in helping students pay for college,” he said.

Lanier Tech’s mission is work force development. With more than 3,200 jobs added in the college’s service area since 2011, it aims to provide job training and a skilled work force to fill employers’ needs.

During the 2011-12 academic year, the college’s foundation awarded 283 students a total of $113,591 in scholarships.
