Baseball: Whitewater over Central 5-4, 8-6

FAYETTEVILLE -- The postseason run came to a close for the Forsyth Central High School baseball team Tuesday night as the Bulldogs dropped a doubleheader to Whitewater in the quarterfinals of the state Class AAAA playoffs.

Central led 4-1 late in both games before Whitewater rallied.

In the opener, the visiting Bulldogs clung to the three-run lead entering the bottom of the seventh inning.

But with two outs and no runners on base, Whitewater mounted a four-run comeback to claim a 5-4 victory.

In the nightcap, Whitewater again overcame a 4-1 deficit, this time surging ahead with five runs in the top of the sixth inning en route to a 8-6 triumph to clinch the best-of-three series.
