Lambert DECA marketing club students are going all-American with this year’s prom fashion show.
The event, which is open to the public, is set for 5:30 and 8 p.m. Friday at the school.
Amanda Mathis, a DECA adviser and fashion instructor, said the event primarily raises money to help students who will be traveling to California later in the year for the DECA international competition.
Some proceeds from the event will also go to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
Tickets are $9 at the door, and there will be other opportunities for the public to provide support.
“What we do is a top model award where people can vote on their favorite model and every dollar [raised] counts as one vote,” she said. “We also do ‘holler for a dollar’ right before intermission and we raise a lot money that way too.”
Mathis explained that DECA officers Caroline Brown, Kelly Cole and Katie Dingle will talk about the work of Children’s.
A patient of the facility will also speak and then donation buckets will be passed around.
Mathis said the show, which lasts about two hours, will feature nearly 45 female and 25 male students as models.
Students in her intro to fashion and advanced fashion classes also work behind the scenes to plan and run the show.
There will also be performances from the Lambert drum line, a dance company and a student who will sing.
Mathis said students look forward to the prom fashion show.
“This is what they live for when they come into the school year,” she said of some of her students. “They’re so dedicated.
“I’ve had students that were here at 7 o’clock in the morning and they’ll be here until 7 o’clock at night getting things ready for the show.”
