SOUTH FORSYTH — South Forsyth Middle School has earned top ranking for its band.
The school’s band program, led by Andy Poor, was recently awarded the Middle School Exemplary Performance Award by the Georgia Music Educators Association.
According to Poor, the band was one of just a few programs from across the state to earn the honor.
To qualify, bands had to earn all superior ratings at the association’s large group performance evaluation. In addition, they had to have students place in both the association’s district honor and all-state bands and participate in the solo and ensemble festival.
Qualifying groups had to also submit a recording for an evaluation by a panel of music educators, who selected the winners.
“We are extremely proud of this accomplishment,” Poor said.
