Election guide 2010: State House District 24

The State House District 24 seat is being vacated by Tom Knox, who is running for state insurance and safety fire commissioner.

A runoff election, if necessary, would be Aug. 10.

There are no Democrats running for the seat, so whoever wins the GOP primary will claim the seat.

Mike Dudgeon, R

Occupation: Chief technology officer for Qualia Labs

Why he’s running: “I want to bring my extensive business and education experience to the state House. I want to support our schools, defend our values and help reform our tax code and regulations to attract jobs. I also believe in Georgia standing up to the federal government to fight Obamacare and other power grabs by Washington.”

Anna McManus, R
Family: Husband, Tom; children, Brian and Katie
Education: Attended Georgia Southern College and Georgia State University; completed coursework in insurance and risk management and is undergoing specialty designations
Occupation: Commercial insurance agent and consultant
Affiliations: Member of the Forsyth County Republican Party for more than 20 years, the Club for Growth, National Rifle Association, Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church and has served various roles in the Georgia 7th and 9th Congressional District Republican Party organizations
Why she’s running: “I’m concerned that out-of-control spending is going to bankrupt our future and rob our children of the opportunities that we’ve been fortunate enough to enjoy.”

Doug Wright, R
Family: Wife, Reba; children, Taylor, Laurenn, Rochelle, Jim, Dan, Josh and Jake; and three stepchildren
Education: Attended the Columbia School of Broadcasting and trained with the Davey Tree Co.
Occupation: Stay-at-home dad; formerly worked in broadcast radio journalism and owned a lawn care and landscaping service company
Affiliations: Worked on the Ronald Reagan campaign, served as a legislative aide and an assistant press secretary in Maine
Why he’s running: “More than anything right now I just think government is just out of control. I truly believe that the people in the country are behind the change. I think people are getting involved and I just feel that commitment in this country to take our country back. ... This is that public service, that one thing I can do ... when you feel called to service, this is what you do and this is what I know. I know state politics.”
