Fowler Park will pack in some extra fun on Sunday for an annual Forsyth County event.

The Play at the Park Family Fun Festival features activities and entertainment in the open field at the 85-acre park off of Castleberry Road and Hwy 9.

The festival, which has free admission, is in its 10th year. Organizer Laura Pate said the county enjoys offering a “low-cost fun day for families,” as well as giving local businesses and groups a venue to share their products and services.

“We hope that people will enjoy the event and learn something new about their community,” Pate said.

Families can enjoy performances, inflatables, face painting, a petting zoo, shopping and food this year.

Some new features include tennis for youth, train rides and the Keep Forsyth County Beautiful portable classroom.

There also will be pet adoptions and a group leading family drum circles.

The event moved in 2011 from Central Park to Fowler, which opened in February of that year.

Pate said the county is staying with Fowler because it has a centralized open field and more parking.

Play at the Park will also continue with last year’s date change to Sunday from Saturday.

“We’re sticking with Sunday because the park is very busy with sports activities on Saturdays,” Pate said. “Families are also busy with sports and other obligations on Saturday.

“Hopefully, this event provides people with something fun to do on Sunday.”

Sunday’s weather forecast calls for sunny skies with a high near 76 degrees.
