HALL COUNTY - A Whitfield County sheriff’s deputy and two inmates suffered minor injuries Monday morning in a fiery wreck south of Clermont in Hall County.

The 8 a.m. wreck, also involving a Dodge pickup truck towing a camper, happened at Clarks Bridge Road at Lula Road/Ga. 52.

Hall County Fire Services units arrived on the scene to find flames showing, spokesman Capt. Zachary Brackett said.

People were out of the vehicles and taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, and the fire was put out, he said. The pickup truck driver was not injured.

The deputy failed to stop at a stop sign at Clarks Bridge Road while traveling east on Lula Road and struck the pickup pulling the camper, according to the Georgia State Patrol, which is investigating the wreck.

The pickup was traveling north on Clarks Bridge Road at the time.

The patrol car caught fire after the collision, and the camper separated from the pickup and overturned on its right side.

Names of those in the wreck haven’t been released and charges are pending, according to the state patrol.
