ATLANTA (AP) — Forecasters are warning of thunderstorms capable of producing damaging winds, and flash flood warnings have been issued in parts of north Georgia.

The National Weather Service issued flash flood watches Friday morning throughout most of northern Georgia as thunderstorms moved into the state.

The flood watch is in effect through Sunday morning and covers Atlanta, Rome, Dalton, Gainesville and Athens.

Forecaster say thunderstorms in the metro Atlanta area may produce winds of up to 40 mph, which could lead to downed trees and damage to other unsecured objects.

The National Weather Service says flooding in the metro Atlanta region is also possible in areas with poor drainage.

Georgia Power's outage map said more than 4,700 customers were without service as of 12:30 p.m.
