The Forsyth County Republican Party will conduct a straw poll for the GOP presidential nomination during the National BBQ Cup tonight and Saturday.

The informal poll will ask participants to choose the best man or woman for the job.

Eight of the 10 Republican hopefuls who have announced their campaigns will be included on the ballot, with space to write in others.

Festival-goers can vote at the GOP booth during the event, which is at the Cumming Fairgrounds. Participants are asked to make a $1 donation.

The straw poll is the second conducted by the local organization this year. The first took place during the Cumming Country Fair & Festival in early October.

In that poll, there were 342 cast votes, with 255, or about 75 percent, selecting Herman Cain as their top choice.

Mitt Romney received the second highest total at 24 votes (about 7 percent) and Newt Gingrich came in third with 21 votes (about 6 percent).

The results of this straw poll will be published within three days of the event on the local party’s Web site, www.forsythgop.org.
