Greenway signs to tout healthy habits

While exercise and nutrition may be on the minds of many visitors to Forsyth County's Big Creek Greenway, healthy habits soon will also be in their sights.

Nutritional activity guides will display how many calories can be burned during different activities.

The new guides will be staggered along the 6.8-mile trail, spaced one, three and five miles from each of the two trailheads.

Kiosks offering further explanation will be installed at both trailheads, as well as the entrance to Fowler Park, which is scheduled to open in January.

The nutritional signs have been funded by a portion of the proceeds raised from the Boulder Dash 5K run held in the spring.

The event was put on by the Healthcare Association of Forsyth County, a business unit of the Cumming-Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce.

Like the Boulder Dash, the nutritional activity guides fall within the mission of Envision a Fit Forsyth, a countywide program that encourages healthy living.

The new guides will be unveiled during a public ceremony set for 10 a.m. Dec. 17 at the Bethelview Road trailhead.

Lynn Jackson, who chairs the association, will present the guides and discuss their significance.
