Computers were atop the list during Keep Forsyth County Beautiful’s fall electronic recycling event.

The organization reported that residents brought in 66,342 pounds of electronics, including 822 computers, during the Nov. 21 collection at the Cumming Fairgrounds.

The tally also included 333 monitors and 138 TVs.

Kevin D. Smith, Keep Forsyth’s community outreach specialist, was pleased with the turnout.

“We had 546 cars line up to drop off electronics,” he said. “This is the most ever.”

The group also collected more than 4,000 pairs of shoes with a little help from the Forsyth County school system.

The shoes will be sent worldwide to those in need through Soles4Souls, a nonprofit organization donating footwear to families in need.

The electronic recycling event is held twice a year, with all recycled materials going to Atlanta Recycling Solutions in south Forsyth.
