Two homes in the Bridgetowne subdivision off Brown's Bridge Road in northern Forsyth County were damaged during a fast moving grass fire just before 5 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.
Division Chief Jason Shivers said three engines, a ladder truck and other equipment responded to the fire, and that firefighters were able to stop the flames quickly. "With high winds and dry grass like this, it could have been a lot worse," Shivers said.
A small section of wall on the first home was damaged, but the second home received more extensive damage as the vinyl siding melted away and allowed the flames to climb to the second story. Heat from the fire broke a window on that home as well, allowing some smoke to enter the building.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
