A Forsyth County-based nonprofit is planning to hand out Thanksgiving baskets to hundreds of families this year.
The Place of Forsyth County is planning to give out meals to 500 families for Thanksgiving. The nonprofit has already had a “banner year” in 2019 by collecting over $580,000 to provide meals for 4,000 individuals.
“We are so grateful for the generosity of this community,” said Joni Smith, president and CEO of The Place, in a news release. “The Place is able to provide so many services to those struggling in Forsyth because, while there is great need, there is great compassion and care from so many in the community. Already, several FOCO schools and businesses have signed on to host food drives. This community has shown up before and we are confident will do so again.”
Despite the successes this year, officials with the organization noted that due to “low wages and increasing living costs, The Place of Forsyth has seen an increase in the number of native Forsythians seeking assistance for the first time.”
The Place is in its 45th year of serving Forsyth County, and more information about the organization can be found at theplaceofforsyth.org.
