NORTH FORSYTH – Motorists are being asked to drive with caution on Hwy. 53 (Dawsonville Hwy.) in north Forsyth this and next week while crews work on the road.

Intermittent lane closures will require flag operators to direct traffic now through Friday, Sept. 23, daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., weather permitting, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.

Work this week will include cutting in the new right turn lane to serve Westbrook Road and adding a left turn lane on Hwy. 53 at Julian Road.

The state agency asked drivers to remain alert for crews and to slow down while driving through work zones.

When work is finished, there will be a left turn lane, a through lane and a right turn lane added to the highway.

“These added lanes will result in less congestion on Hwy. 53,” GDOT officials said in a news release, “and make turning left or right safer for drivers.”
