A popular local car show will celebrate its 20thanniversary this weekend.

The Mount Pisgah Church Car Show is set for noon to 11 p.m. today and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Cumming Fairgrounds.

Organizer Danny Bearden said the show historically has been held only on a Saturday, but it was decided Friday would be added this year in honor of the milestone anniversary.

“We’re real excited about it,” he said. “We’ll have plates for sale with barbecue, two sides, dessert and a drink from 5 to 6 [p.m.] Friday for $10. Then we’ll have some local groups provide entertainment beginning at 7 p.m.

“We’ve never had either of those things at the event. It’s all in honor of the anniversary.”

Bearden said the event draws a wide range of antique cars and trucks from primarily the Forsyth County area, but many others travel much further to show off their vehicles.

“People come from Tennessee, Alabama, all over the place really,” he said. “Last year we had 186 cars and this year, we’re hoping for more. It would be nice to have at least 200.”

The event is free to attend. Bearden said it drew between 4,000 and 5,000 people in 2012..

“We’re hoping to have a lot more than that this year, especially with having it on two days,” he said.

“It’s just a great, fun event that the whole family can come out to and enjoy together.”
