The community is invited to listen to patriotic music while supporting senior citizens Friday night.
Forsyth County Senior Services will present a concert featuring the Air National Guard Band of the South from 7 to 9 p.m. at Sexton Hall Enrichment Center.
Admission to the concert is free; however, donations will be accepted in support of the county’s Meals on Wheels program. In addition, concessions will be available for sale, with all those proceeds also going to the program.
Every day, Meals on Wheels provides nutritious, hot meals to homebound seniors.
With the assistance of program volunteers, nearly 42,000 home-delivered meals were provided throughout the county in 2012.
Michael Bohn, director of senior services, said in a statement that he and his staff are excited to offer the community concert.
“We are really looking forward to what will be a great concert for a fantastic cause,” he said. “We are very fortunate to have a band of this caliber offer to come perform for the community.”
The Band of the South is comprised of Air National Guard members, who are part-time Guard members with full-time civilian careers.
According to the organization’s Web site, they rehearse and perform one weekend a month and present an annual concert tour with stops throughout Georgia, Alabama, Florida and North and South Carolina.
In addition to the annual community concert tour, the group provides music for military ceremonies, official protocol functions and recruiting and retention events.
The band, one of 11 Air National Guard bands throughout the country, is headquartered at Dobbins Air Force Base in Marietta.
