Ninth District Opportunity Inc. was recently awarded $6,421 in federal funds from the Emergency Food and Shelter National board Program Phase 34 to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the Forsyth County.
The allocation will be decided by the State Set Aside Committee. The selection was made by a national board chaired by the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) made up of representatives from the American Red Cross, Catholic Charities, USA, The Salvation Army, United Jewish Communities and United Way of America.
A local board made up of agencies and churches was charged to distribute funds appropriated by Congress to help expand the capacity of food and shelter programs in high-need areas around the country.
Under the terms of the grant, agencies chosen to receive funds must:
- Be private voluntary nonprofits or units of government
- Have an accounting system
- Practice nondiscrimination
- Demonstrate the capacity to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs
- Have a voluntary board if they are a private voluntary organization
Qualifying agencies – not individuals – are invited to apply before the June 14 deadline.
