Several Forsyth County government departments are seeking gift givers for the holiday season.

The fire department and senior services are again accepting donations for annual programs to benefit kids from ages 1 to 92.

The county-organized donation drives aim to make the holidays more enjoyable for those who may need some cheer.

The Forsyth County Fire Department will accept toys for children in need for its 10th annual Aerial’s House toy collection.

“Thanks to the very generous support of residents and businesses alike, the Aerial’s House toy collection has helped brighten the holiday season for many local children over the years,” said Fire Chief Danny Bowman.

“Collecting the toys is something the fire department personnel look forward to every year. It is our honor to serve this community, and we are humbled to be able to help give back to the community in this small way.”

New, unwrapped toys for Aerial’s House may be dropped off at Forsyth County fire stations, the fire department’s headquarters, 3520 Settingdown Road, or any of the county’s three library branches.

Toys may also be dropped off under the Christmas tree in the lobby of the Forsyth County Administration Building, 110 East Main St. in Cumming.

For more about Aerial’s House, call the headquarters at (770) 781-2180, Ext. 0.

For information regarding the distribution of toys collected, call the Forsyth County Family YMCA at (678) 341-6337.

Forsyth County Senior Services needs gift-givers for senior citizens in this year’s Holiday Gift Angels Program.

“The Holiday Gift Angels Program is a wonderful way to make a difference in the lives of our seniors and also spread holiday cheer,” said Valerie Rhoads, senior services manager.

“The gifts help remind our senior citizens that someone is thinking about them during the holiday season.”

The gift request tags from senior citizens are available at all three Senior Services locations.

Each gift request tag contains the name of a local senior citizen along with a gift idea.

Those participating in the program may deliver the unwrapped gift in a bag with the request tag attached to any of the three senior services locations through Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Those centers include: Charles Place, 595 Dahlonega St.; Hearthstone Lodge, 7305 Lanier Drive; and Sexton Hall, 2115 Chloe Road.

Call Forsyth County Senior Services at (770) 781-2178 for more information.

Senior services also requests donations for this year’s Home-Delivered Meal Holiday Gift Certificate Program for homebound seniors.

Meals purchased with a holiday gift certificate through Forsyth County Senior Services will be delivered through the Meals on Wheels program.

“Those who choose to help support the … program will be making a positive impact for our local seniors,” Rhoads said. “Over recent years, there has been an increasing demand for our Meals on Wheels program and that need typically grows during the holiday season.”

All meals delivered through New Year’s Day will include a special certificate to wish happy holidays from the meal provider.

Senior services has set a goal of delivering 4,500 meals to local senior citizens this holiday season.

Those interested in participating may choose to provide meals for a day, week, month or year. The cost is $3.48 for one meal, $17.40 for one week, $76.56 for one month and $904.80 for the entire year. All gifts are tax-deductible.

Checks should be made payable to Forsyth County Senior Services, Holiday Gift Certificate Program and may be mailed or delivered to the following address:

Forsyth County Senior Services, 595 Dahlonega St., Cumming, GA 30040.
