NGCSU to hold guitar summit

The fine arts department of North Georgia College & State University is holding a classical guitar summit Nov. 21-22. The event is free and open to the public.

Classical guitarists from the Athens and Atlanta areas have signed on for the event at the Dahlonega campus. They will showcase their abilities and take time to teach students in master classes.

Luther Enloe, who teaches guitar at Berry College and Georgia College & State University, will hold a master class at 10 a.m. Nov. 21 in the Hoag Student Center Auditorium.

Classical flute and guitar musicians DuoATL will begin their master class at 3 p.m, also in the student center auditorium.
Atlanta area musician Esteban G. Anastasio, a classical flamenco and fusion guitarist, will teach a seminar on the techniques in modal improvisation at 11 a.m. Nov. 22 on the campus’s Nix Cultural Center.

Athens Guitar Trio’s master class is set for 1 p.m. Nov. 22 in the Hoag Student Center Auditorium, with a recital in the student center at 7 p.m.

Guitarist John Sutherland, who started the guitar program at the University of Georgia in 1971, will hold a master class at 4 p.m. Nov. 22 in the student center.

Sutherland has helped initiate numerous guitar programs in the state, including those at Georgia State University and Georgia Perimeter and Columbus colleges.
